Brenda Russell-Baca is the CEO, Producer, and Talent Manager of BSR Events & Entertainment. Brenda is also the producer and creator of Dance For Camp 2012. In our recent interview, Brenda shares her passion for helping the youth, the excitement behind the dance for camp event, her vision for future events, and how her company is taking Hollywood by storm!…

What is Dance For Camp all about?
Dance for Camp is two events in one, a Television Show Casting Call, followed by a Hollywood Celebrity Fundraising Event for the Boys and Girls Club. Dance for Camp is an event that showcases young artists in both music and dance. DFC gives fresh new talent an opportunity to be discovered for film, television and live events. Kids today are so into dance and music, it’s become an epidemic. It’s something that gives them a creative outlet and helps keep them off the street, but most of all it’s a form of exercise that helps kids stay in shape.

Dance for Camp was created from a television show concept that Shane Sparks, Chuck Maldonado and myself came up with that is going to make a huge impact on the Youth of America. It all started with a casting for Hip Hop kid and young adult dancers, that turned into a huge celebrity fundraising event because of a personal experience I had with a single mom at the Boys and girls Club of Thousand Oaks.

As a career working single mom, with no family support, I needed help with my kids. I was offered scholarships that helped me with childcare and Summer Camp programs, so I was able to focus on my career. When I moved to the Thousand Oaks area, I was welcomed with open arms. I had been offered so much support for being a newbie, I knew immediately I’d found my new home. The Director Georgi Harden, treated me and my kids so well, she went above and beyond and helped me get through a personal family crisis. I decided I wanted to do something to give back. So I called my Hollywood friends and asked if they would come and support me by doing a fundraiser for The Boys and Girls Club. 6 months went by and I had not found the time to produce an event for them, so I just kept it on the back burner.

One day I came into the club to pick up the kids, and while at the counter a mom walked in with two kids and asked how much it cost for Summer Camp? She turned around and walked out with tears running down her face. I knew right then how she felt being a single parent with no support, and it just clicked, I knew what I needed to do. It was like God spoke to me, and since we were holding a TV show casting anyway, why not do two events in one and do something over the top…So before you know it, Dance for Camp was born.

Who are some of the artists, dancers, and entertainers attending the event?
Hollywood’s most famous and recognized dancers, and choreographers from America’s Got Talent, America’s Best Dance Crew, TV Shows, Feature Films, Music Videos, Grammy Awards, and more, including Choreographer Chuck Maldonado, who will be promoting his new film “Step Up Revolution” coming out this Summer, July 27th. In addition, music group NU Sway and rapper C-WAY will be performing live, and “MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew” Fanny Pak. There will also be other ABDC dance crews and individual dancers from ABDC crews will also be performing. DJ KASH and DJ Storm will be spinning the hottest hits from hip Hop to Dubstep, while the public kids freestyle and dance. Tons of TV and movie kid actors and singers will also be swinging by our Red Carpet.

What’s your vision for future Dance For Camp events?
As I began creating the idea along with Shane Sparks and Chuck Maldonado, it grew into something none of us expected. The national attention Dance for Camp has gained made us realize this is a great event that can be produced nationwide through the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and provide scholarships to allow underprivileged kids an opportunity to go to Summer Camp. The kids will also be able to participate in Dance workshops provided by Celebrity Choreographers and Dancers. So I am excited to see how much money Dance for Camp 2012 will raise and how many kids we can send to Summer Camp this year and next. BSR Events and Entertainment (is excited to bring Hollywood to Conejo Valley). We are here to stay and plan to do big things here locally and nationwide.
