DancersGlobal Presents: An Interview with Kaya Jones.
It is not often you come across a multifaceted entertainer like Kaya Jones, who embodies all the qualities of a true artist; talent, humbleness, selflessness, and above all a strong commitment to helping artists grow. If you’re unfamiliar with Kaya Jones, she was one of the lead singers of the pop superstar group, “The Pussycat Dolls.” That was then, this is now – Kaya is now onto the next chapter in her career, blazing a trail as a solo artist, and ready to make history in the pop/dance music world. Speaking of history, Kaya is the youngest female ever to start her own record label, HueMan Race Records Inc.
With all these attributes and more, it’s clear that Kaya is driven with Passion & Purpose, and destined to be successful in all that she does. In our recent interview, Kaya talks about her brand new album, which energy drink she’s the face of, her ambitions as an artist/label owner, advice for budding artists, and more.
How excited are you about releasing your debut album “Kaya” recently? Who are some of the producers you worked with on the album? Any tour dates set?
So excited! We are rereleasing it here, so that world-wide it hits at the same time. We also remastered all the songs and it sounds a million times better. When I did this album, I did it alone, there wasn’t an A&R rep finding songs, or a huge marketing team behind me. It was my blood sweat and tears that pushed for this. I was lucky to have such great friends in the game to help me. The Alumni Group produced songs, Axident produced songs and world class DJs helped me make this. I am so grateful that God gave me good friends and strong faith to see it through.
You just released the official music video for, “Release The Energy.” Talk about the creative process, from the choreography, to the music itself.
R.T.E or Release The Energy is my baby. I believe in this song so much. When I recorded it I knew it was special. I always knew the video had to be big and dance needs to be everywhere. I am so happy I had Rico Reyez, my choreographer, and all the amazingly talented dancers on board. While we were filming the dancers solos, I just watched and cried cause of how far I had come; watching all the dancers freestyling to my song was so beautiful.
What big goals/dreams do you have as an artist? What about as a label owner?
As an artist I want to go as far as I can, push the boundaries, be inspiring, and relate to my fans/future fans. My biggest dreams were to sing back up for Mick Jagger and be in a girl group. I did those. Now my dreams are to win a Grammy, sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, and transition into acting.
As a label owner it’s to find the next big star! To mentor kids that are driven in the arts. To raise the bar on artists owning their work and to be apart of helping their dreams come true. To pay it forward. I’ve been so blessed and had the best training from, R.Kelly to Jimmy Iovine. This business has been my life since I was 12. I am finally doing what I love doing. Being an artist and helping the future ones grow.
Talk a little about All Day Energy Drink, and your affiliation.
I am the face All Day Energy Drink, and my new single “Release The Energy” is now the theme for it. It’s an amazing energy drink that really works. I’m so about health and fitness, and I’m glad I’m able to share this with you all and be apart of this wonderful brand.
What are some of the current projects you’re working on? Future?
Well, there’s a lot. I have right now a Record Company which means everyday business like any other CEO. Signing new artists, developing ones who are just starting and finding interesting ventures for my talent. All at the same time releasing my album worldwide digitally and physically, and preparing my world tour. It’s a lot, but I love it. Also working on my reality show and brands I’m now teaming up with as well as charity work. I do not have enough hours in the day. As Jay-Z says “Rest when your dead”
As CEO of your own Record Label, HueMan Race Records, what do you feel separates your label from others? What qualities do you look for in an artist?
My label HueMan Race Records Inc. is one of a kind. We look for talent like the rest but we focus on development and artists having ownership in their work. It’s the only label right now doing joint ventures for new artists. We have heard of this with the big dogs in the game but never for new talent. So it’s just about being fare to my artists. Why because I am them, and they are me. I never had a company like mine, so I created one for me. And what I found was I wasn’t alone. Millions of artists wanted the same thing I was looking for, and rest is history as they say.
What advice would you give to new artists trying to break into the industry?
Believe, Believe, Believe! No one will believe in your dreams like you will. Be yourself, no one can ever do you as good as you can, so why try to be anything else. And if they shut the door a million times and won’t let you in, KICK IT DOWN! Anything and everything is possible.

What’s your inspiration?
Animals are my inspiration. They give me so much joy, and staying close to my faith in God and in myself.
